For a gal from a small town, it's always fun to take a peek at the lives of the rich and sophisticated people of New York City (along with the not rich, not sophisticated and wannabes). This is a great combo of the elite, some suspicious deaths and a couple of fish out of water.

Jenny Dandy is a graduate of Smith College and of Lighthouse Writers Workshop Book Project. Though she has lived and worked from Beijing to Baltimore, from Northampton to Atlanta, New York City was the place that held onto a piece of her heart. Thoughts About The Brownstone at E. 83rd
The Brownstone at E. 83rd does a great job of showing us the many sides of New York: the rich, the regular folks, the pretenders, the criminals and more. What appealed to me was the ambiguity of most of the characters - readers can love and dislike them, often on the same page. Often I was unsure how I felt about them...wary, sad, angry, surprised, disappointed. Everyone is hiding something and when things start getting revealed it ramps up the action (there is a lot of set up for this complicated con job). Just how far will everyone go to keep their secrets hidden? Will the "good guys" make the right choices? What are the right choices? Everyone seems trapped...can anyone escape unscathed?
The uneasy partnership between Ronnie and Jankowski evolves throughout the book and at the end I was left wondering, what will their relationship be now? Will they be friends or will there always be a layer of distrust? I'd be interested to see how they help each other in the future.
