Initially, I wasn't going to review Deadly Gold Rush, the second book in the Indie Retirement Mystery Series. I did have fun interviewing author Landis Wade HERE. But Partners in Crime Book Tours gave me a link and once I started reading I just couldn't stop. So take a peek at my review and don't miss out on the last days to enter the giveaway.

More about Deadly Gold Rush

Murder, mayhem, and the Carolina gold rush: welcome back to the Indie, where retirement is anything but quiet.

When a shady real estate developer is found murdered beneath Harriet Keaton’s family home—shot, stabbed, and surrounded by rare 1830s gold coins—her estranged twin brother Joey is the prime suspect. He insists he’s innocent...but won’t name the real culprit.

With Joey refusing to talk and millions missing from the retirement accounts, the future of the Independence Retirement Community is suddenly on the line. Now, whip-smart Harriet and her sleuthing partners—Craig Travail (savvy lawyer, reluctant romantic) and Yeager Alexander (conspiracy theorist, resident rabble-rouser)—must dig into the past to solve the crime.

Their best lead? A decades-old memoir from Harriet’s treasure-obsessed father and whispers of a long-lost gold hoard.

But treasure has a way of attracting trouble. As fortunes vanish and suspects multiply, the trio must untangle two decades of betrayal—before the killer strikes again.

Thoughts about Deadly Gold Rush

Author Landis Wade has a gift for bringing to life quirky, yet totally believable, characters. I found myself rooting for the residents of the Indie Retirement Community and wishing they were friends of mine. The mystery is a complicated tale that reaches back decades of people willing to do anything for money and power vs. people who just wanted a little justice and joy in their world. But this isn't just a rollicking adventure to find the missing gold and save the falsely accused. Deadly Gold Rush also addresses death, romance, family estrangements and more. It's a well rounded book that truly feels like a slice of someone's life.

Although I enjoyed Deadly Gold Rush, I think the experience would have been even better if I had read the first book in the series Deadly Declarations. There were several grudges, relationships and events that happened in the first book but echoed through the plot of the second book. Guess next up for me is getting a copy of Deadly Declarations.
