More about The Last Devil to Die

“The best Murder Club book yet. . . A poignant complement to both the fair-play mystery plot and the characters’ lively humor.”

—The New York Times Book Review

It's rarely a quiet day for the Thursday Murder Club and The Last Devil to Die is no exception.

Shocking news reaches them—an old friend has been killed, and a dangerous package he was protecting has gone missing.

The gang's search leads them into the antiques business, where the tricks of the trade are as old as the objects themselves. As they encounter drug dealers, art forgers, and online fraudsters—as well as heartache close to home—Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim have no idea whom to trust.

With the body count rising, the clock ticking down, and trouble firmly on their tail, has their luck finally run out?

And who will be the last devil to die?

Thoughts About The Last Devil to Die

Definitely don't read this book until you've read the first three as several characters [mostly criminals] from the past will be making a guest appearance. There are so many bad guys that could be involved in the murder/heroin theft that it might be hard to make heads or tails of your suspect list. Plus people are dropping like flies! All by the same hand or are their multiple murderers? At a few points I was left wondering, "Huh?" But that could be because I stretched out the reading over several weeks (it happens when you are reading four books at one time).

Despite being busy with several crimes, The Thursday Murder Club finds time to get involved in each other's personal lives - whether it be illness, romance, shady schemes or just plain loneliness. Happily everyone's life is changing. Some unexpected people are taking the lead in the investigation this time around as they also welcome (or welcome back) additional members to the group. I think I liked this aspect of the book best of all. The introduction of new people gives it a fresh feeling and gives you a peek into the inner workings of the familiar characters.

Another delightful romp that will have you hoping you find as fun a group when you check into the retirement home. After all, you can't knit and garden all day!

A Little Extra

The Thursday Murder Club movie is coming to Netflix on August 28, 2025 with some fabulous casting including Helen Mirren (she's everywhere!), Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley.
